12 months to go

My best friend and I go back a long, long way now.  We have been through more dodgy fringes, bad hair cuts and boyfriends (plus breakups) than we probably want to remember.

But Sam I am proud to say has now found 'the one' and they are getting married exactly 12 months from today.

Paul and (soon to be) Sam Hipson
So for the next 12 months, to count down the months until their wedding, I am going to send Sam a small present for the big day! Today was the first of 12 presents and I started with a six pence for her shoe.

Happy Second Birthday Teddie

It's only a quick post today as it is my gorgeous nephew's birthday today and we have just got home after celebrating his birthday at his party on the trampoline.

I can't believe that this little man who I feel in love with the first time I saw him has just turned two.  It just doesn't seem possible.

Our first official photo together
So Happy Second Birthday Teddie, Auntie Lauren love's you lots!

#BringBackOurGirls

I watch the news sometimes, but not often and when I do I am so angered at the way things are dealt with and how blasé some of the way the reports come across.

#BringBackOurGirls is something which is so important, yet so far nothing has happened in an attempt to rescue these poor girls.

There have been so many celebrities and politicians such as Cara Delevingne, Michelle Obama and even Bob Marley's family are supporting this, however, still the girls haven't been brought home.  What is it going to take to make someone stand up and say NO or would you like some help?

I am not saying that other countries should wade in with their size 10 feet and start a fresh war somewhere new, but couldn't they at least offer them some advice? Offer them some solutions or some support?

So what is it all about?

On April 15th, 230 School girls were kidnapped from the Chibok Government Secondary School by Boko Haram Terrorists in Nigeria. All 230 are still missing.

"The students are being held captive by the Islamic militant group Boko Haram in Nigeria. Boko Haram when translated to English means “western education is forbidden.”
The group has unleashed many violent attacks against innocent Nigerians. However, the kidnapping, its most recent atrocity, has propelled the international community into action."

The Facebook page is now encouraging people to organise their own rallies, in order to bring more awareness to this horrific situation.

Please help raise awareness of this issue, tweet this post, RT Cara Delevingne, Michelle Obama and Rita Marley's posts, go to a rally - do anything you want to, but please lets help make a difference and bring these girls back to their families.  Imagine if that was your sister, your auntie, your cousin, your child.

Planning a trip to Kefalonia

My challenge of 12 in 12 is in need of a new adventure and I have been looking at lots of different places recently.  However, I think I have found the one and I think this may be the trip I am going to be brave enough to take on my own.

I am planning on going to Kefalonia for 4 days in July and so far have my dates picked out.  Tomorrow I will be booking my time off of work and then it will be time to book my flights and accommodation.  But I have so many questions, which I am going to try and ask and answer here, so I can hopefully help someone else planning this trip too.

1. Where on the Island should I stay?
2. What on the Island should I see?
3. How much can I see in 4 days?
4. Will I need to hire a car?
5. Is there a traditional guest house that I can stay in near the sea?
6. What's the best way to get from the airport to my hotel?

I think that's it for now in terms of questions, so here is where my list of recommendations of things to see and do starts...

1. Ithaca (by boat?)

As you can see I am at the bare bones stage of this plan, so if anyone else has any ideas or suggestions please drop me a note below and I will add it to my 4 days in paradise.
